Ramen, tsukemen and mazesoba, with a choice of noodle and vegetable portions and garlic levels at Ramen Hamayama in Miyakojima Hondori.
2 Chome-5-11 Miyakojimahondori, Miyakojima Ward, Osaka, 534-002101 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Would you prefer a smaller portion of noodles, or extra vegetables and garlic? At Ramen Hamayama, part of the appeal is choosing how to put your bowl together. The menu includes ramen, tsukemen and mazesoba, with vegetable portions ranging from regular to extra-extra. Garlic can be omitted or ordered at regular, slightly extra, extra or extra-extra levels, so you can tailor your order to your appetite that day.
Diners who have tried the ramen have described chewy, thick noodles and the pleasure of lifting them through the vegetables and back fat. One person who ordered the Pork W option mentioned thick slices of pork and crisp vegetables, and varied the flavour with seasonings at the table, including fish powder, curry powder and ichimi chilli pepper.
For a soupless option, the egg-topped mazesoba is worth considering. One visitor described thick, springy noodles coated in a tangy sauce, best eaten after mixing them thoroughly with the other ingredients. Another enjoyed theirs with egg and cheddar cheese, finished with pepper. Adding cheese is another way to take the dish in a different direction from the classic ramen.
The restaurant is mainly arranged around counter seating, making it suitable for solo diners. One person who ate there alone appreciated being able to enjoy the meal at their own pace. In Miyakojima Hondori, you can choose ramen when you want a substantial bowl, or switch to mazesoba or tsukemen for a different style of eating.
